Adam plays white house reporter “Ira” on the new NBC series 1600 Penn!

From Huffington Post:

NBC has added two new shows to its 2012-2013 slate. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the White House comedy “1600 Penn” has gotten a series order of 13 episodes.

The series was created by and co-stars “Book Of Mormon” Broadway star Josh Gad and stars Bill Pullman as the POTUS and Jenna Elfman as the First Lady and stepmother to the president’s children. The Peacock network is getting a lot of “Book Of Mormon” talent: Andrew Rannells, the lead in the play, is starring in Ryan Murphy’s “The New Normal,” which was also just picked up.

The brains behind “1600 Penn” also include former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett and “Modern Family” director Jason Winer. EW has confirmed the pickup.

Additionally, the network has ordered 13 episodes of “Animal Practice,” a comedy revolving around a veterinarian (played by “Weeds” star Justin Kirk) who loves animals, but hates their owners.

“1600 Penn” and “Animal Practice” have been added to NBC’s already intriguing list of new shows including comedies “The New Normal,” “Save Me” and “Go On,” as well as the J.J. Abrams/Eric Kripke drama following a family as they attempt to reunite in a post-apocalyptic world.

The reading featured the talents of David Denman, Devon Gummersall, Jason Ritter, Adam Shapiro, Amy Smart and Rider Strong.

“Five old college friends reunite for an evening of reckless drinking, but the men acknowledge that their youth is over,” according to press notes. The play made its world premiere at The Manhattan Theatre Source in November 2008.

Founded by Devon Gummersall and Andrew Carlberg, The Piece Project is a celebrity-based theatre ensemble. Every two months, The Piece Project and Vs. Theatre Company host a play reading at [Inside] the Ford in Hollywood, as Vs. begins its quest to acquire a permanent theatre space.

Hey, Morgan! is extending it’s run to December 16th after being praised in the LA Times, Variety, and LA Weekly as THE show to see this month in LA!

“CRITIC’S PICK! This is a miniature musical of superior stature that might rock the socks off the competition. At the doting hands of her adoring parents (splendid Meagan English and too terrific Adam Shapiro, who also play all the other parts), whatever Morgan wants, Morgan gets—including a new, mama-inspired, straightened nose; a summer camp unfettering of her badge of innocence, as it were; a doting boyfriend to yearn for; the college of her choice; an idealized, diminishingly perfect first job—at CAA, no less; a precious gap year in some fashionable location; and finally the man of her dreams.
” Madeleine Shaner, Backstage West

“It’s virtually impossible to leave the Black Dahlia without a big grin on your face.”
Bob Verini, Variety

“The story traces the life of Morgan (a winning Martha Marion), an affluent Jewish girl from Brentwood who is seen from age 13 all the way to her somewhat perfunctory death. The bulk of the action concerns Morgan’s quest for love and her eventual marriage. Charming Meagan English and hilarious Adam Shapiro, who scores many of the laughs, play all the other roles, with Laskin functioning as a guitar-strumming singer/narrator. Youthful ebullience abounds in Hey, Morgan! at the Black Dahlia Theatre–the first musical in that prestigious theater’s history. If you’re in the mood for glitzy escapism, consummately rendered, this could be your ticket.”
F. Kathleen Foley, Los Angeles Times

Thurs, Fri at 8pm, Sat at 8pm & 10pm
Additional 10pm Friday Performances on Dec 2, 9, 16
No shows Nov 24-26 or Dec 3rd

Starring Meagan English, Isaac Laskin, Martha Marion, and Adam Shapiro
